paper conservation: maps

endless maps, most from the indiana geological survey.  basically any sort of map you might want.  pompeii?  got it.  spain and portugal?  yep.  a map of properties covered by insurance in the 50s in spencer, indiana?  right here.

1) mend the tears

2) color fastness testing - they did pretty well, in a couple the red bled the tiniest bit but since the wash wasn't going to be too intense they still passed

3) stain removal if necessary

4) washed them with mild detergent

4) humidified & pressed them (pictures soon)

objects conservation: 20 minute mini

so this really isn't anything fancy as far as conservation or even storage goes but the costume is pretty neat so i took pictures anyway.  it's another dance costume, a bull.  really, all it needed (at minimum) was a support for the nose so it wouldn't be off balance.  and it also needed something more than just a plastic bag to keep the gorgeous horns in.  so i made a mini support and then an acid free box.  voila!

not good

chin rest - better

not good

where the horns would be while on display (but a bit risky to leave
them there in storage)

acid free box - better
